De: Stray Cat Objet: Re: Security of PGP post retraction Date : mardi 11 novembre 1997 01:03 Well actually, it goes alot further than anyone could have imagined. Once the backdoor was discovered in the PGP sources, and subsequently eradicated there, it move into the compilers. After those were cleaned out everyone thought that was the end of it. But no........The NSA forced all the CPU vendors to insert the backdoor into the chips' microcode. And just to be sure that in case this was discovered, NSA designed special super secret silicon dopants that inject the backdoor code in the semiconductor crystal matrix itself. Every single semiconductor device made since 1992 is most likely contaminated. CPUs, memory chips, Computer chip sets, all of them. There was a small (several million units) lot of Pentium chips, and Neptune chip sets that somehow were made with clean silicon. When NSA discovered this they got Intel to invent the Floating Point Bug error as a ruse and everyone went for the freebie replacement CPUs that have the special backdoor dopant in them. But here's the real problem. Even if you get a clean set of chips, it won't help. In geostationary orbit, there is a constellation of three super secret NSA satellites, providing 100% overhead coverage of the earth's surface. Their only function is to contiuously beam down the backdoor code where it is picked up by your computer cables and internal wiring. This radiated backdoor code will insert itself into compilations of PGP, or if you don't compile your own, it will insert the special NSA recovery key into the encryption process allowing every message you encrypt to be decoded at will. Why the backdoor Key-ID doesn't show up in the recipient list is the largest mystery know to man, surpassing the meaning of life itself by far. So far the only know workaround it to run PGP while the computer is inside a double Faraday cage located at the bottom of a very deep lead mine. All those ski resorts in the Colorado rockies are just a front to disguise the heavy traffic passing thru Leadville, CO where visits to the deepest lead mines are booked years in advance. Even now, NSA is working on the next generation of this backdoor beam. Since it is widly known that cosmic rays will penetrate the entire earth, there is no hiding from them. I hear they are negotiating with God about taking over a neutron star for this purpose. Since interstellar travel is right behind cracking 128 bit IDEA on the priority list, NSA hopes that God will save them the trip out to reprogram the star. I dunno. Maybe Phil will come up with somethinng in version 6.0 to put a stop to all this. And yes, this is a joke.
