Frog's Technical Page

Introduction

General Guidelines

If I were a tek wiz, it would be cool to design my own ASIC, with RSA & IDEA buried in silicium, and write a remailer server on that processor's assembly language, and put it on a ROM chip too...
Well, I might be a guru and have both the technical knowledge and means to do it, it would still be a *bad* idea.
The very basic principle of remailing is *chaining*,
The most brilliant individual cannot create a chain all by himself, he needs somebody else before him, and somebody else behind him, and as many as possible eligible for the job.
We do not need few distant semi-gods operating incredibly complex devices and systems.
We need plenty grass-root individials operating robust and fool-proof off-the-shelf components.
It does not take a genius to be a remop, it just needs some common sense and dedication.

Who is Frog-Admin?

Actually, I called myself 'Frog' because I am a French Frog and also because I have an interest in scuba-diving (frogman).
I also like to hop from place to place (France, Spain, British Columbia mainly).
FrogRemailer's beginnings were also somehow tormented, and it had to hop from ISP to ISP, from wehhosting to webhosting.
I like the name, it is short and it is self-derision.
It is my decision to introduce myself as an average person with no special knowledge in microcomputers.
Actually, I had 'some' exposure to computers before, but my direct contacts with microcomputers were limited to office tasks (reporting, planning, management...).
And more details about me are nobody's business.

Choosing a platform, more decisions

Windows is not my favorite OS (by far!), nor is x86 my favorite processor.
In short, I chose the Wintel platform because it was the most widespread,
And in all cases, I tried to get hardware and software and 3rd parties from off-the-shelf, at lowest cost, public-grade, to keep the 'everybody_can_do_it' profile.
Hence experiments and mistakes, and some knowledge I am willing to share.
