Frog's Support for News

News Server

Intro

The NewsServer is a by-product of the tool (Dnews) that I am now using to inject posts.
Running a full-fledged free NewsServer is *not* my purpose,
so the capabilities have been seriously tweaked according to my goals and policies.

You just have to configure your NewsClient to use frogadmin.yi.org on port 119.
No authentication/password is required, but capabilities are restricted

Reading Capabilities (AAM)

I suck AAM from 3 NewsServers and store the pool for 90 days.
You may find this is a great feed for your remailer client built-in news capability.
That is what my JBN2 uses.

Reading Capabilities (APAS)

I suck APAS from 3 NewsServers and store the pool for 90 days.
I enforced anti-flood/troll rules, and apas melts from thousands posts/day to a handful posts/day.
I could not live without my personnal home NewsServer when I am abroad on a slow, pay-per-minute dial-up:
...I just plug my laptop's NewsClient to the frogadmin.yi.org host.
But it is a great use when I am at home, and I just don't need the filth:
...I just plug my computer's NewsClient to 127.0.0.1.
This is my own personnal vision of what I feel worth in apas.
If you have opinions similar to mine on that matter, you will love it, you might hate it otherwise.
I am not going to change my reading habits for you,
... you got thousands of NewsServers which provide an untidy apas, you can plug your computer's NewsClient to.

Reading Capabilities (Other NG)

It is possible, but limited.
For both uses where it is advisable (list of newsgroup/tracking posts)
the WebToNews might be more convenient than the NewsServer

Posting Capabilities (AAM, APAS)

This is possible, but I don't encourage it, same as Web2News

Posting Capabilities (Other NG)

This is prohibited, same as Web2News

Filtering

As exposed paragraph after paragraph, my NewsServer does not hold whole usenet! same as Web2News
